The primary aim of the Dietetics Department is to provide optimal nutritional care to patients and residents of the Swan Hill District Health and to empower members of the community to optimize health through good nutrition.
The Department provides Dietetic service in Swan Hill and an outreach service (supported by the Mallee Division of General Practice) to Sea Lake.
The Dietetic Department is located near front reception of the hospital in the Allied Health Service Area. The service operates Monday to Friday. Appointments are necessary and a fee for service applies. A service is also provided fortnightly from Swan Hill Maternal & Child Health Centre and monthly from Swan Hill Aboriginal Health Service, appointments can be made at these respective venues.
Dietetics provide services to Acute Care, Aged Residential Care, Community Nutrition Education Programs, Schools, and provide resources to this and other organisations and the community. A health promotion project titled 'Go Kids' has now been implemented for 3 years. 'Go Kids' focuses on improving nutrition, including breastfeeding, and physical activity participation of 0-5 year old children. Dietetics and Health Promotion Departments are working in partnership with other local organisations to implement this project.
All Dietitians employed at Swan Hill District Health are Accredited Practising Dietitians and members of the Dietitians Association of Australia.
