Emergency Department

Patients who are not booked in for an elective procedure, but require admission to the hospital are seen in our Emergency Department prior to being admitted. You will be seen by a doctor who will decide on whether you require admission to the hospital.

The Emergency Department offers a 24 hour service with Hospital Medical Officers on staff with additional on-call support from General Practitioners, Anaethetists and surgeons. All Nursing staff have advanced life support skills. Radiology and Pathology diagnostic services are also available.

Referrals from the Emergency Department are made to:

· Acute Ward

· Surgery

· Retrieval services for transport to specialised hospitals.

The Emergency Department provides approximately 13,000 occasions of service annually.

Once the decision is made that you are to be admitted you will be taken to our acute ward once a bed becomes available.

A staff member from the Admissions Office will see either yourself or one of your relatives or friends to obtain your admission and account details. This may occur either in the Emergency Department, in the ward or a message may be left for a relative or friend to call in at the Admissions Office.
